Dr. Bjorn Gunnarson

Associate Professor and Senior Researcher at CHNL in Bodo, Norway.

Education:

PhD Degree from the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences of Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, USA; and BSc Degree from the Department of Geology, University of Iceland, Reykjavik, Iceland.

Research Interests:

Bjorn has research, teaching and extensive academic and research management experience in the fields of (a) Arctic maritime transportation and logistics; (b) renewable energy resources and technologies; (c) impact assessment and mitigation of natural hazards; and (d) geochemical modeling and environmental geology. Current research interests are focused on Arctic shipping and ship traffic analysis; operational conditions for shipping in Arctic waters; transport infrastructure development and the linkages between regional socio-economic development and reliable, innovative and environmentally friendly transport and logistics systems in the High North. Other topics of interests are renewable and hybrid energy systems for use in remote Arctic communities and in minimizing the environmental footprint of future Arctic operations.
