Thematic Network on Arctic Transport and Logistics at Arendalsuka

The UArctic Thematic Network on Arctic Transport and Logistics co-hosted a panel debate together with Centre for High North Logistics, Nord University and Konnekt, at the Arendalsuka, held from 11-15 August, 2025 in Arendal, Norway.

Arendalsuka is the largest political gathering in Norway held annually since 2012.

Arctic Mobility – The Road to Competence Building in the Northern Nordic Region?

Leading voices from politics, academia, defense, and diplomacy were  gathered to address the urgent need for enhanced transport and logistics infrastructure in Northern Norway and across the Nordic region. The event highlighted the growing strategic importance of the High North, driven by new industrial investments, increased geopolitical tension, and Finland and Sweden’s accession to NATO.

The discussion was focused on cross-border collaboration, civil-military coordination, strength of the competence building cross border and the modernization of critical infrastructure to support both economic development and national security. The Norwegian government’s recent Total Preparedness White Paper underscores the importance of integrating civilian and military actors with knowledge institutions to safeguard vital infrastructure.
